What are high-frequency queries?

High-frequency queries are phrases that users enter into search engines significantly more often than other words. Typically, these are generalized expressions that can be applied to a wide range of topics and requests. They include short phrases of one or two words, such as "buy," "download," or "order delivery," which are frequently repeated by many users. When additional clarifying elements are added to such words, they become medium-frequency and low-frequency queries.

Types of queries: high-frequency, medium-frequency, and low-frequency

Delivery, as a service, comes in various types, which explains the high popularity of the query "order delivery," which has over a million queries per month. However, if this query is specified, its popularity sharply decreases. This is because high-frequency queries can generate a large volume of traffic, but they do not always match the interests of a specific site.

Traffic and its targeting

For example, if a bookstore promotes itself using the high-frequency query "books," it may attract a large number of visitors. However, among them will be people looking for e-books or audiobooks, those who want to download text for free, or those interested in libraries. In most cases, such visitors will leave the site because it does not meet their expectations.

The "sandbox" effect for new sites

An interesting fact: all new sites fall into the "sandbox" filter. This means that their visibility is limited until search engines are convinced that the content genuinely meets user queries. Under such conditions, spending resources on promoting high-frequency queries is impractical—it is an expensive undertaking, and search engines will not allow new sites to occupy top positions.

Challenges of promoting high-frequency queries

Promoting high-frequency queries requires significant effort and financial investment due to high competition. This makes such an approach more feasible for large companies that seek to maintain their market recognition. For them, it is important to stay at the top of search results, even though the traffic may not be targeted.
