Friends, you can now publish clips on VKontakte through our service!
We were waiting for this as much as you — and here it is, the long-awaited update! Previously, the social network didn't provide the technical capability to publish clips via API, so we couldn't integrate this feature. But we followed the updates from the VKontakte team — and now everything is ready!
In this guide, we will tell you how to publish clips from a computer and a mobile device. We will also answer all your questions related to this update. Let's go!
How to publish a clip from a computer?
-
Enter the publishing editor as usual.
-
Select the "Reels/Shorts/Clips" section.

-
Upload the video and write a description — everything as in a regular post. If you want the post to also be published on your wall, check the box.

-
Check the preview. We updated it so you can clearly understand how the video will look in the feed on both the computer and in the VKontakte mobile app. That way, you won't miss anything!

How to publish a clip from a mobile app?
- Open the mobile app and enter the desired project.
- Tap the plus (+) and select "Reels/Shorts/Clips".
- Upload the video, write a description — everything as usual! Want the clip to appear on the wall? Just check the box.
- Check the preview — see how the clip will look on the social network.
Done! Press "Create Post."
What to do with square videos?
Why do square videos still go into clips? We often hear this question! Even if you publish a square video (1:1) as a regular post, the social network automatically recognizes it as a clip — and it ends up in the corresponding feed.
Why does this happen? Unfortunately, it's a rule of the social network itself, and we cannot change it. Any video from a 1:1 (square) to a 9:16 (vertical) format is perceived by the system as a clip.
What does this mean?
- Fields are added to the clip for adaptation to the vertical format.
- It is automatically published in the clips feed, even if you initially chose only a post.

If it's important for you that the video remains on the wall (without being moved to clips), try cropping the video to a classic horizontal format (for example, 16:9). Then the social network won't process it as a clip.
But if you need a square video, just keep in mind that it will end up in the clips section — it's a feature of the platform.
Why is there no text in the post when publishing a clip on the wall?
This is due to VKontakte's rules. Text for clips is added in the description of the clip itself, not in the post. Even if you upload a clip directly to the social network (as a clip and not as a video in a post), the description will be displayed in the video, not in the publication text.
VKontakte differentiates between the layout of regular posts and clips — this is beyond our control. The type of publication is formed based on the platform's requirements.
Try the new feature
Now you know how easy it is to publish clips on VKontakte — both from a computer and a phone. Be sure to try it!
If you have ideas or suggestions for improving the service, we would be happy to hear them. Go to the “Share an Idea” section, leave your thoughts, vote for updates, and join the discussion.
We closely monitor VKontakte's updates — and as soon as it's possible to post square videos on the wall (without automatic transfer to the clips feed), we will immediately add this feature to the service. Stay tuned for updates!
