In 2025, free neural networks for image generation became an essential tool for everyone who is even slightly involved with visual content — from designers and marketers to school students making presentations. Fortunately, the choice is vast — so much so that it's easy to get lost.

In this article, we will examine ten of the most convenient and accessible solutions that will help create a picture without spending.

ChatGPT

ChatGPT has long become a household name in the world of AI. It's not surprising that over time, developers added the ability to generate an image through a neural network. However, access is limited, as with most AI in Russia. But the issue is resolved with a foreign IP address.

ChatGPT can work in a wide range of styles: from realistic scenes to cartoonish and bright compositions. What is particularly unusual is that it is one of the few that creates images with correct text. Sometimes even without errors.

Despite its advantages and convenient interface, this AI loses to specialized generators like Midjourney or Leonardo AI. It creates just one image at a time and works slower than other services. The editing function is also weak: ChatGPT fixes one detail and immediately breaks another.

In conclusion: GPT is suitable for those who need a quick sketch of an idea.

Leonardo AI

Leonardo AI was developed as a tool for generating game assets but over time it has grown into a full-fledged platform for creative graphics and even live photos. Moreover, it can be used for free.

The AI creates detailed pictures and does so in 20–30 seconds. The free plan does not offer editing, but a good prompt solves this issue — there are many tools available for formulating prompts.

Leonardo offers:

  • Improve Prompt — turns a simple phrase into a detailed prompt;
  • Random Prompt — helps if you have no ideas;
  • presets for style, contrast, sizes — everything is chosen in a couple of clicks;
  • Image Guidance — you can specify an old image as a reference.

If you write a good prompt, the chances of getting the perfect result are higher.

Google Imagen

Imagen provides access to both new and older versions, allowing for experimentation. However, in the latest model, Imagen 4, the clarity and detail are noticeably better. Additionally, it allows for changing the aspect ratio: 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, or 4:3.

Users note an unusual downside — Imagen 4 is too good at generating photographs. Each image looks as though it was taken by a professional photographer with perfect lighting, retouching, and soft bokeh in the background. However, the AI performs well with landscapes and cityscapes.

The editor in Imagen is convenient: you can ask to change the color of clothing, and the model will try to maintain the composition.

Nano Banana

Nano Banana is a funny name for a serious upgrade to Google Gemini 2.5 Flash. The model focuses on precise editing of existing images rather than creating an image from scratch. Its main feature is speed: the image appears literally within ten seconds.

Capabilities include:

  • powerful targeted editing — change clothing color, remove an object, add an object, change lighting;
  • good prompt adherence;
  • preservation of the original scene;
  • object combination — it allows merging elements from different photos.

Nano Banana won't create an image from scratch, but it can easily replace an element of a photo with another photo.

Grok

Grok is an image generator from X (Twitter), similar to ChatGPT. Images are detailed here, with good color reproduction and a maintained style. It confidently creates both realistic scenes and cartoon illustrations. Moreover, it offers several options at once. You can change size, style, level of detail, and fine-tune the result through iterations — Grok understands edits fairly well.

There are advanced functions, but they may confuse newcomers — mastering them takes time. Sometimes the AI errs with very complex or abstract descriptions — requiring more precise wording.

How to write prompts to get good responses — discussed in this material.

Canva

Canva has long been a base for those who need to create beautiful visuals quickly and painlessly. Therefore, it is not surprising that in 2025, the capability for image generation by a neural network appeared here.

All you need is an account in the editor and the Magic Media tab. Enter a description — get four images. Sometimes the AI veers into cartoonishness, but for most tasks, the result is suitable. Importantly, it can be immediately edited in the editor.

Canva lets you choose the tone, textures, and color schemes of the future image. And next to it is a huge library of templates and elements.

Shedvrum

"Shedvrum" is a social network for neuro-artists. The service operates on YandexART and YandexGPT models. It excels at artistic illustrations, especially in the style of digital art. Photorealism is less effective: artifacts appear, the image looks neural. But the model very accurately follows prompts.

"Shedvrum" is structured as a social network: you can subscribe, like, and comment. Under each image is the prompt used.

Alice

"Alice" long ceased to be just a voice assistant — now it's a full-fledged AI for image generation. It creates avatars, prints, postcards, illustrations, and even concepts. Everything happens directly in chat.

You can choose parameters:

  • style — realistic, cartoon, 3D;
  • aspect ratio;
  • number of variants.

"Alice" can also edit uploaded photos: change the style, turn an image into a video.

All results are saved in the dialogue history.

Postmypost

Postmypost is not free, but an incredibly practical tool. It tackles two tasks at once: image generation and content management.

Postmypost is a content plan with deferred posting: you can create a draft, edit it, generate an image, send it for approval, and schedule publication.

An AI assistant is built into the post editor. Formats: 1:1, 16:9, 4:3, 3:4, 9:16. Describe the scene — get the result.

How to properly formulate prompts — explained in this article.

MagicStudio

MagicStudio — an online tool for image generation and photo editing.

It offers format and style selection, Magic Eraser, Background Remover, and ready-made templates.

Cons include: it doesn't always interpret complex prompts accurately, only supports English, and allows for 40 generations per month.

Free neural networks offer broad possibilities. Each platform has its strengths and weaknesses — it's important to choose the one that suits you.
