Telegram is not a typical social network where algorithms rank content in the feed. In the user's feed, both communities and personal chats appear in chronological order. To view content, one must enter a channel. Because of this, general recommendations regarding posting frequency from other social networks do not apply here.

But how often should you post to avoid losing reach? We discussed this question with colleagues, analyzed the statistics of various Telegram channels, and are ready to share the results of our research.

Hypothesis: the more you post, the less reach each publication gets

We hypothesized that the more materials a channel publishes in a day, the fewer views each subsequent post receives.

To test this theory, we examined channels of different sizes:

  • Small (200–300 subscribers, 1 post per day)
  • Medium (tens of thousands of subscribers, 2–5 posts per day)
  • Large (over 1 million subscribers, 10+ posts per day)

For each channel, we compared the reach of the first and last publication of the day to understand how much it decreases.

Research Results

1 post per day — maximum reach

The highest view counts are found in channels that publish 1 material per day.

This is likely due to:

  • Subscribers do not turn off notifications (the channel does not spam).
  • The new post immediately appears at the top of the chat list, attracting attention.

In channels with frequent publications, users get used to constant notifications and begin to ignore them.

2 posts per day — slight decrease

If you publish 2 posts per day, the difference in reach between them will be about 20%. This is an acceptable figure, especially if the content is indeed important to the audience.

3 posts per day — stability in small channels, decrease in large ones

In small channels (up to 3K subscribers), three posts per day have almost no impact on reach. However, in larger communities, the third post may lose up to 25–30% of views compared to the first.

4+ posts per day — sharp drop in engagement

Starting from four publications, the decrease becomes noticeable:

  • 4 posts — reach drops by 30–40% for the last post.
  • 8+ posts — each new material receives 2–3 times fewer views than the first.

An exception is news channels. If a Telegram channel operates as a media outlet (for example, publishes exclusive news), subscribers will visit several times a day to not miss important updates. In such cases, posting frequency is not as critical.

Conclusion: optimal posting frequency

  • For non-news channels, it is better to stick to 1–2 posts per day.
  • 3 posts is an acceptable maximum, but only if the content is truly valuable.
  • 4+ posts lead to a significant drop in reach (unless you are a media outlet or news aggregator).

The more frequently you post, the higher the risk that subscribers will start to overlook your messages. The optimal strategy is quality over quantity. One strong post is better than five unnoticed ones.

Key takeaways:

  • 1 post per day = maximum views
  • 2–3 posts = moderate decrease in reach
  • 4+ posts = sharp drop in engagement (except for news channels)

If your goal is stable channel growth without losing audience, maintain a reasonable balance in your postings.
