Do you know that 8 out of 10 people will limit themselves to reading the headline and form an opinion about an article or social media post based on it alone? In doing so, they won't bother to read the rest. Only two of them, after reading the headline, will want to see what you wrote about. This is supported by research results published by The Washington Post.

Therefore, the headline plays a very important role: to interest and engage the reader so that they click on the link and read the post or article to the end. Let's figure out how to write a compelling headline.

A good headline is always clear, concise, informative, and conveys the essence of the content. In addition, it always evokes an emotional reaction in the reader. A selling headline will invariably bring in new buyers, while a viral one will attract the attention of the widest possible audience to a post or article that benefits the reader and brings a new audience.

To write a catchy headline, you can use different methods. And also — a neural network.

Types of Headlines

Depending on the text content, different types of headlines can be used.

Interrogative. This headline encourages the subscriber to think and delve into the problem and then answer the question posed in the headline. For example: “Why should harmful foods be excluded from the diet?”, “How to earn a million with neural networks?”

Numbers and lists. The reader expects to see structured useful information. For example: “10 Best Ways to Create Headlines for Mailings”, “5 Reasons Why You Need to Work in a Team Today”, “7 Shows You Can't Stop Watching.”

Problem and solution. These headings are similar to interrogative ones, but they contain a statement and promise the reader a ready-made solution to the problem. For example: “How to Learn English in Three Weeks Without Leaving the Couch and Become a Professional”.

Promise. Such a headline indicates a specific benefit for the reader. For example: “Neural Network That Will Simplify Your Life: Everything About Its Capabilities”, “The Fastest Way to Get Rich”.

Personal experience. A product tested “on oneself”, personal experience of participating in an event is always well received by the audience. For example: “How I Bought My Dream Home: Expectations vs. Reality”, “Where I Seek Inspiration for New Reels”, “How I Increased My Productivity by 300%”.

Use the 4U Method

Headlines containing 6-13 words are the most popular among blog readers — this is according to research results from HubSpot. To fit all the necessary information into a few words, you can use the 4U method.

Usefulness — the headline should reflect the idea of which problems your article or post will help solve, what benefits and value the reader will receive. For example: “How a Neural Network Will Help Create Attractive Headlines”

Uniqueness — indicate how your offer differs from competitor services. The headline must be unique and not copy similar headlines on the same topic. For example: “The Only Way to Write a Headline That Stands Out Among Competitors”.

Ultraspecificity — add specifics to your headline. For example, specific numbers: “fit within a budget of 2000 rubles”, “lose 10 kg”, “save up to 80%.” Or — the target audience for whom the article or post is intended: “Who Should Pay for SMM Specialist Services?”

Urgency — emphasize the time frame within which the subscriber will benefit: “lose 10 kg in a month”, “increase conversion by 50% in a week”. For example: “Start Attracting Readers Today”.

Use Ready-Made Formulas

There are already ready-made headline formulas. Just add your elements to them, and with a high probability, the headline will catch the reader's attention.

How to Write a Headline with a Neural Network

Neural networks can quickly generate a lot of catchy headlines. You can request a neural network and choose any of the proposed headlines. Or use neural network-generated headlines for inspiration.

Let's show how to do this with Postmypost AI.

Step 1

Go to Postmypost AI.

Step 2

Write a prompt. The more detailed you articulate all requirements, the more accurate the result you will receive. In the prompt, you must write about the material and the target audience.

Step 4

In a couple of seconds, the required number of headlines is ready!

Optimize the Headline

SEO optimization not only improves the headline but also boosts the content to the top positions of search engines. You can optimize the headline in this way:

  • Add keywords. Analyze the queries that users write in the search bar. This can be done using tools such as Yandex Wordstat, Google Keyword Planner, or SEMrush. Choose keywords related to the article's topic and semantically close to the main concepts. Place the keyword at the beginning of the headline.
  • Write unique and informative headlines. Try to select keywords in such a way that the headline is informative, unique, and attractive to readers.
  • Consider the length of the headline. The best length for a headline is 70 characters. You can write a longer headline — but not longer than 100 characters.

Applying these recommendations will help optimize article headlines using keywords, increasing their visibility and effectiveness in search engine optimization (SEO).

The Most Common Headline Mistakes

The headline is too long or complex. The simpler and clearer the headline, the more attention it attracts.

Lack of emotion. Catchy headlines evoke emotions in the reader: joy, curiosity, fear. No emotional response — no interest from the reader.

Mismatch between the headline and content. If the headline announces 10 ways to get rich quickly, they must be described in the text accordingly. Otherwise, the reader will simply be disappointed in the material. At worst, complaints and unsubscribes will follow.

Template. Avoid template phrases, bureaucratisms, clichés — they repel the reader. Also, try writing different headlines for your blog, alternating questioning, problematic, personal experience, etc.

Creating an effective headline is an art. Approach the creation of headlines creatively by experimenting with different types and methods, and remember the goals you want to achieve with each headline.

After all, it's important not only to grab the reader's attention but also to meet their expectations with useful and high-quality content that follows the headline.
